What to expect from your first massage

New to massage, or just new to us? Here's exactly what happens at your first treatment at Artemis Therapies, so you can arrive relaxed.

If you’ve never had a massage before, or it’s simply been a while, it’s natural to wonder what actually happens. The short version: there’s nothing to prepare, nothing to get right, and every part of the treatment is shaped around you. Whichever treatment you choose, the rhythm of the visit is much the same.

Before you arrive

There’s no need to do anything special. Come as you are, ideally with a little time to spare so you’re not rushing through the door. If you can, avoid a heavy meal in the hour before your treatment.

A gentle consultation

We always start with a short, relaxed chat. This is a chance to talk about how you’re feeling, anything you’d like the treatment to focus on, and any health considerations so the session can be adapted safely. You’re welcome to share as much or as little as feels comfortable.

During your treatment

You’ll be warm, covered and supported throughout. You can ask for more or less pressure at any point, change your mind, or pause, your comfort comes first, always. Many people drift somewhere between waking and sleeping, and that’s perfectly welcome.

Afterwards

Take a moment before you get up. It’s a good idea to drink some water and, if you can, let the calm carry into the rest of your day rather than rushing straight back into it.

What should I wear for a massage?

Wear whatever feels comfortable to travel in. During the treatment you'll undress to your comfort level and be covered with towels throughout, with only the area being worked on uncovered at any time.

Do I need to talk during the treatment?

Not at all. Some people like to chat, others prefer quiet, both are completely fine. The session is yours, and Hannah will follow your lead.
